G R I M E S: I don't want to have to compromise my morals in order to make a living

actuallygrimes:

i dont want my words to be taken out of context

i dont want to be infantilized because i refuse to be sexualized

i dont want to be molested at shows or on the street by people who perceive me as an object that exists for their personal satisfaction

i dont want to live in a world where…

“Why are those things important if nobody notices?”
“Because there’s an intrinsic feeling to being in balance.”

In 1997 an 18 year old Italian woman was raped by her driving instructor. He was convicted, sentenced, and later repealed his conviction. His defense argued that because she was wearing very tight jeans, and very tight jeans cannot possible be removed without the help of the wearer, she must have helped him remove them and had, in doing so, consented to the sex. His conviction was overturned.
Tight jeans are not consent.
Provocative clothing is not consent.
Drinking and partying are not consent.
Being passed out or intoxicated is not consent.
Flirting with someone is not consent.
Your previous sexual history is not consent.
Being a sex worker is not consent.
Walking alone at night is not consent.
When a woman is brave enough to seek charges against an attacker, we need to stop asking what she was wearing, if she was drinking, where she was walking, what her personal life is like. These attempts to find an out, so that maybe- just maybe- we don’t need to admit that a terrible person committed a terrible crime that we’d like to pretend we’re all above at this point in our history, are deplorable.
Stop perpetuating rape culture.

Meet Mohsin Shezad. I left my iPhone in the backseat of Mohsin’s cab on Thursday. When he discovered it, he drove back to where he’d dropped me off, and spent several minutes looking for me. When I finally called an hour later, he was all the way across town, but drove 30 minutes to meet me. Then he tried his damnedest to refuse a reward, saying: “Please sir, your fare was enough. Please sir, no.”
This man has a wonderful and humble soul.

Incredible human.
